Presidents' Message

Welcome to the 2010 NSW Local Government Cultural Awards.

Art enriches our communities, and we are fortunate in NSW to be able to count such a diverse range of cultural opportunities as part of our lives.

Arts and culture are one of the key forces that ensures communities are not static - they enrich our lives and keep us vibrant in mind and spirit.

Culture can create new connections between all people, as communication of exceptional stories, new and old, bridge perceived barriers in our communities.

The rich cultural fabric of NSW is offered depth by Local Government's commitment to the arts.

Our sector makes a significant contribution to culture in NSW. Local Government can facilitate the exploration of culture in unique spaces and moments in time.

Projects featured in these Awards in the past seven years have been inspirational.

The Cultural Awards in 2010 will focus on improving recognition for the importance and distinction of cultural achievements across the state.

In the same way that Councils are rewarded each year; artists, cultural advocates and professionals are honoured in principle for their continual contributions.

We encourage Councils to acknowledge the value of the people who play a role in cultural exchange and discovery in the local community.

We look forward to receiving new applications in 2010 and to sharing with you in a celebration of your cultural successes.
