Chidren's Book Week is an annual month-long event at Bankstown Libraries to celebrate Australian children's and youth literature. Each year Bankstown Library involves children from 50 local primary schools to attend author/illustrator talks in the libraries and visits to local schools to promote the joys of reading. During the whole month of August library staff visit the local schools an dhost visits in-library offering children a unique opportunity to interact with their favourite authors and illustrators, which school teachers and librarians describe as unique and hugely important as the schools themselves cannot offer such an inspiring program. Children's Book Week is just not enough time as over 5,500 primary school students participate in author talks, reader's theatre, competitions and fun activities culminating in presentation of prizes and certificates.
